Getting a Midwife

In Ontario, midwives are funded by the Ministry of Health. That means you can have a midwife look after your pregnancy, delivery and your new baby, all for free!

To get a midwife, you can contact us yourself; you do not need to see your doctor first. To get started, fill out the online application form and if you have further questions, you can call us at 519-568-8282.

To see if midwifery care is right for you, we will ask you about your health. Some women have special medical needs which require pregnancy care by doctors. If this is the case, you will be referred to an appropriate doctor.

If midwifery care is right for you, we will look at when you are due and see if we have a spot available. If we do, we will contact you to set up your first appointment. If we are fully booked, we will offer to put your name on our waiting list.

Our waiting list is important. When a new midwife joins our group, a client moves out of the K-W area, or has care requiring an obstetrician, we call women from the waiting list to offer them midwifery care. It is very important that you complete an application if you want a midwife to care for you during your pregnancy.

Genesis Midwives is a growing practice. We keep track of our waiting list and submit this information to the Ministry of Health to show the need for more midwives. Your name on our waiting list supports funding for more midwives in our practice, and this community.

We hope we can offer midwifery care for you and your growing family.
